Coach Martin Accepts Position With SIU

Description: Kat MartinCongratulations to Kat Martin as she has accepted a position with Southern Illinois University’s Women’s Basketball team!  She will serve as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the Saluki’s in Carbondale.  Find Saluki news here.

Coach Kat has been an integral part of the KC Women’s Basketball program the past six seasons, leading the team to five straight seasons of 20+wins.  Kat worked tirelessly with incoming and outgoing recruiting for the Kougars.  She helped sign 8 KC players to sign NCAA DI full-rides over the last 4 years.  Her incoming recruiting classes had garnered national attention with over 15 NCAA DI schools coming to our campus during contact periods.

“We are incredibly proud and happy for Kat for so many reasons.  She is a KC grad who left her mark here as a student, player, and coach.  Her tireless work ethic, passion for excellence, sincere concern for the student-athlete, and fierce loyalty to the program has been enormous to the success of the KC women’s basketball program.  She has proven that hard work pays off, by setting goals, dreams can become reality. We have no doubts that she will be incredibly successful at the next level.  She will be missed, but we know there comes a time when one needs to continue to spread those wings and fly,” lauds Head Coach Karen Wiley.

Raven Gary Appalachian State Highlight Video

Raven Gary graduated from Kishwaukee College and Women’s Basketball program in 2011. She came to KC from Illinois powerhouse Chicago Marshall H.S., coached by the legendary Dorothy Gators. There, Raven led the Commandos to a 3A State Championship in 2008 and 3rd place state finish in 2009. Playing 2 years at Kishwaukee College, Raven set the KC single game assist record at 15, also setting this as the NJCAA national game assist record. She left the program as an All-Conference and All-Region IV selection. She finished her KC career as the school’s all-time assist leader (320) and 10th in scoring at 732 points. She helped lead the Kougars to the 2011 Arrowhead Conference Championship. Raven moved on to NCAA DI Appalachian State University where she started at point guard for the Mountaineers. She finished her collegiate career with a two year record of 46-18 and graduating with a Communications degree. “We are very proud of Raven and what she has accomplished. She came to us with goals of playing and contributing at a Division I institution. She is a great example of what trusting and believing in our program can offer for the present and the future. Raven was able to use KC as a place to hone her skills, grow in strength and get a great education.
