Obtaining QBasic from a Windows CD

If you have a Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me installation CD, then QBasic should be on that CD. There are two files that you need: qbasic.exe and qbasic.hlp. I would suggest creating a new folder named "QB" on your C drive and just copying the two files into that folder. Here is where I found those files on my CDs:

Downloading QBasic from Microsoft

QBasic is also available directly from the Microsoft website at http://download.microsoft.com/download/win95upg/tool_s/1.0/w95/en-us/olddos.exe. That link should download a file (program) named olddos.exe, which will generate a number of files when you run it. Among the files it creates you should find qbasic.exe and qbasic.hlp. Place them where you want them and you can get rid of all the rest.

Running QBasic

I suggest placing the files qbasic.exe and qbasic.hlp in c:\QB\ and then creating a shortcut to qbasic.exe on your desktop. Either click on the shortcut, or use Windows Explorer or My Computer to find qbasic.exe and then double click on it.
