IRELAND

Jim McGuigan, a student in the Fall 2000 class, took these photos of Ireland.

Cliffs of Moher

This image is of the Cliffs of Moher. These cliffs are on the outside of Galway. Although a little hard to see off the Internet, there are people on top of the cliff in the foreground. The Cliffs of Moher are along the western coast, in the Republic of Ireland. Find the Cliffs on the map below!

Galway Bay

Galway Bay is the port where most immigrants left to travel to the United States. See p. 82 in the book to find out more about the Irish Potato Famine. Around two million people fled starvation from the famine during the 1840s that enused after seasons of heavy rain and a blight (disease). Galway Bay is in the Republic of Ireland. Find it on the map!

Titanic port

This picture is of the port where the Titanic was built. This port is in a Protestant area and Jim had a Catholic driver who refused to stop the car for a closer look at the area.

Blarney Castle

Blarney Castle, home of the famous (or infamous) Blarney Stone. Kissing the Blarney Stone is supposed to bring good luck. Blarney is also in the Republic of Ireland.

Kilkenny Castle

This photo is of Kilkenny Castle and River Nore. Kilkenny is south of Dublin. See the map below to find it!
