CARIBBEAN SEA REGION
Donna Hyser, a student of the Fall 2000 class in Genoa, took these photographs in 1989.
Welcome to Hell!!
These two photos are of Hell, Grand Cayman. The desolate areas of rock are really lava. Eventually the sharp, jagged edges will erode and the vegetation will be able to spread into the newly created soils. The photo on the left has standing water between the rocks.
Find Grand Cayman Island on the maps below!
Besides tourism, Grand Cayman Island also has turtle farms and here is an example. Small turtles are raised in tanks such as this one. When the turtles are older, many will be released into the Caribbean sea for repopulation practices.
The turtle farms do attract visitors. Here are two of Donna's travelling companions getting a personal look at one of the turtles. Tina is holding the turtle.
Cosamal, Mexico has ancient ruins of the Mayan people. This image has Mayan hieroglyphic writing on it. Click the picture for a larger image. It make take longer to download. The writing is on the blue background, on the left, near the bottom of the stone.
