Getting Started with Online Courses
Whether you are a first-time online course student or a returning online course student, below is an important checklist for getting started with online courses at Kishwaukee College.
- To first identify if online learning is for you, complete the
Pre-Questionnaire Self-Assessement test and see how
you score.
- Browse the online course offerings on the Schedules page to choose an online course.
- If after browsing the online course schedules you have a question concerning a specific course's curriculum and/or requirements, you can e-mail the instructor of that course by using the e-mail addresses listed on the Contact an Online/Hybrid Course Instructor page.
- Register for the online course through Admissions, Records and Registration
or your
KishSOS account. For more information on registering, visit the Registration/Records section of this Web site, call 815-825-2086, ext. 2470, or visit the office located at U147 on campus.
- Once enrolled and your registration confirmed on your schedule, get familiar with online courses by reviewing all of the information at the Online Courses section of this Web site. Especially important is the Blackboard Student Essentials document, the How do I log in to my online course?: Blackboard ID and Password Information tutorial, and the Tips for Being Successful in an Online Course information page.
- Note the start date of your online course listed under Schedules. Blackboard IDs and passwords will not be active until the morning (9 a.m.) of that date.
- Check the compatibility of your computer's Internet browser software (Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.) by visiting the Computer Requirements and Blackboard Browser Check/Tune-up pages.
- Purchase the textbook(s) for your course by visiting the Online Bookstore, or, you can also buy textbook(s) from the traditional "brick and mortar" Bookstore, located in A-100 on campus, or by phone at 815-825-2086, ext 2270.
- Take a moment to get familiar with your Blackboard ID and password which you will use to log in to your online course. Your Blackboard ID and password is based on the information you submitted when you registered at the College. Information on IDs and passwords can found in the How do I log in to my online course?: Blackboard ID and Password Information tutorial.
- To get oriented with online courses at Kishwaukee College please visit the Orientation Infomation page to view the Flash orientation tutorials.
- If you are having trouble logging in to the Blackboard online course server, please check the F.A.Q.: Frequently Asked Questions for solutions to common issues with logging in. If after reading the F.A.Q. you are still experiencing difficulties with logging in, please contact technical support.
