Frequently Asked Questions about Tuition and Fees

How Much Do I Pay?

Tuition and fees are calculated using the following table:

Senior Citizens.  Residents of Kishwaukee College District 523 who are 60 years of age at the time of registration are not charged tuition or a student activity fee for college credit courses. They must still pay the Registration Fee, Technology Fee and any Laboratory Fees. Senior citizens registering for non-credit courses must pay the full costs of the course.

When Do I Pay?

You have two options:

  1. Pay by the Tuition Due Date. Upon registration, your balance will be due on the Tuition Due Date (see below). If you register after the Tuition Due Date, your balance will be due on the day you register.

    OR

  2. Enroll in KIPP. You can enroll in the Kishwaukee Installment Payment Plan (KIPP) and spring your payments over several months.

You will be dropped from your classes on the day after the Tuition Due Date if you have a balance due and have not enrolled in KIPP.  If you are enrolled in KIPP, you will be dropped from your classes if you have a payment more than 30 days past due.  For registrations occurring after the Tuition Due Date, you must pay your balance in full or enroll in KIPP on the day you register to avoid being dropped from your classes.

Tuition Due Date for Billing and Payment

The Tuition Due Date is:

  • May 11 for all Summer 2008 classes
  • August 17 for all Fall 2008 classes

Note that these deadlines fall on Sunday. KishSOS and KIPP’s eCashier website will be available for online payments 7 days a week.  For all other payment alternatives, your payment deadline is 5:00 p.m. on the preceding Friday, when the Business Office is open.

KIPP - Kishwaukee Installment Payment Plan

You have two options:

  1. KIPP - Traditional Plan. With this plan, you can arrange to pay tuition and fees in monthly installments. A portion of your balance must be paid prior to the start of the classes, and the remainder is paid in installments during the semester. Upon enrollment in KIPP, you will be charged a non-refundable fee of $50. You will also be assessed a $25 charge for any missed payments.
  1. KIPP – Pending Aid Plan. This alternative was designed for students receiving financial aid, where the total award may not cover the entire cost of tuition and fees. Under this plan, you can defer all payments until several weeks after the semester has begun. The cost of this program is $50.  This fee will be waived if your account balance is paid in full 14 days prior to your first scheduled payment date.

To be eligible to enroll in this plan, your financial aid must be awarded by the College’s Financial Aid Office and accepted by you.  It is therefore critical that you submit your financial aid application a minimum of two months before the semester begins.  The Financial Aid Office will accept last-minute applications but cannot guarantee that they will be processed before the start of the semester.  You will also be allowed to enroll in this plan if you have a completed student loan application on file in the Financial Aid Office.

Other KIPP Notes

If you enroll in KIPP and your account is in good standing, Kishwaukee College will not drop you from your classes on the Tuition Due Date.  Therefore, if you enroll in KIPP and later decide to not take classes, you must drop the class yourself.  Otherwise, the debt owed to Kishwaukee College will remain, regardless of your attendance in your classes. See “What About Refunds” below for more details.

What About Refunds?

A 100% refund will be granted for classes dropped within the first 6% of the course, as measured using the start and end dates of each course. A 50% refund will be granted for classes dropped after 6% of the course has expired but within the first 12% of the course. The exact drop dates for each of your courses can be found on your schedule, bill and online using KishSOS.

Refunds will be made only after you drop your course, either in person or on KishSOS. You may apply any refund credits to the cost of other courses.  Otherwise, a refund will be mailed to you or credited to your credit card. A full refund will be granted for courses canceled by the College. Refunds are not granted if a student has been withdrawn due to misconduct or delinquent attendance. This policy does not apply to Continuing Education classes.

If Financial Aid was used to pay tuition and fees, the refund will be applied to the financial aid programs that paid the charges. The Higher Education Amendments of 1998 have mandated additional requirements concerning refunds of tuition and fees to Title IV Financial Aid programs for students who drop or withdraw from courses for which Title IV funds were used.

What If I Don’t Pay?

If you have debts outstanding to Kishwaukee College, you will not be allowed to receive official transcripts or grades from the college. You will also not be allowed to register for additional classes, and Kishwaukee College could pursue collection activities at any time.
