How to Apply For Financial Aid
Step 1 - Become a Kish Student
Submit the Student Information Form and official transcripts to the Admissions, Registration, and Records Office (ARR). Student information forms are available in the office, online, and as a download. Be sure to include your Social Security Number on your Student Information Form so that your financial aid application can be processed.
Step 2 - Set Up Your KishSOS Account
Follow the instructions in the letter sent to you after you have been admitted to Kishwaukee College. Be sure to regularly check your Kishwaukee College student email account after you have set up your KishSOS and email accounts.
Step 3 - FAFSA
Each school year, fill out an electronic Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online or in the Financial Aid Office. The FAFSA becomes available January 1 each year. You can pick up a paper FAFSA in the financial aid office or call (800) 433-3243 to have one emailed to you.
- Apply as soon after January 1 as possible.
- Apply online for faster processing.
- Obtain a PIN for the student and the parent prior to completing the FAFSA.
- Use the IRS Data Retrieval Option on the FAFSA for parent and student if the IRS 1040 form has been submitted to the IRS.
- Use actual figures from your federal 1040 tax form.
- Round up figures to the nearest dollar.
- Answer questions referring to the "school year" as the year July 1 through June 30.
- Answer enrollment plans according to your first choice college or university.

Step 4 - Kishwaukee College Financial Aid Forms
After your FAFSA has been received by the College, you will be notified by mail what forms are needed to complete your file. Download, print, complete and return forms that can be found on the Financial Aid Forms page.
Check your KishSOS account in My Application/Fin Aid Info/Communication/My Documents to view what forms are needed and what forms have been received.
If you file remains incomplete, you will receive emails to your Kishwaukee College student email account reminding you of what is needed to complete your financial aid application.
Be sure to complete forms as soon as possible.
Step 5 - Apply For a Loan
If you will need a Direct Loan to help pay for your college expenses, have OFFICIAL academic transcripts from ALL post-secondary institutions you have attended sent to the Admissions Office.Download, print, complete and return the Direct Loan Application found here. Step 6 - Review Your Student Aid Report
Review your Student Aid Report (SAR). Your SAR will be mailed to you within four weeks after you apply. The Financial Aid Office will make necessary corrections for you. If you apply online, you can print the SAR after it has been processed using your PIN.
Step 7 - Review Your Award Letter
Once you receive an award letter from Kishwaukee College, review the information and keep a copy for your records. You can print a copy of your award letter by accessing your KishSOS account: My Application/ Fin Aid Info; Financial Aid Award Letter.
