How to Apply For Financial Aid
Step 1 - FAFSA
Each school year, fill out an electronic Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online or in the Financial Aid Office. The FAFSA becomes available January 1 each year. You can pick up a paper FAFSA in the financial aid office or call (800) 433-3243 to have one emailed to you.
FAFSA Tips
- Apply as soon after January 1 as possible.
- Apply online for faster processing.
- Use actual figures from your federal 1040 tax form.
- Round up figures to the nearest dollar.
- Indicate numbers less than 10 with a zero (0) first.
- Answer questions referring to the "school year" as the year July 1 through June 30.
- Answer enrollment plans according to your first choice college or university.
- Print in capital letters, with black ink, if filing a paper FAFSA.

Step 2 - Kishwaukee College Financial Aid Forms
Fill out all Kishwaukee College Financial Aid Forms. Forms are available in the Financial Aid Office or online at the Financial Aid Forms page.
After your FAFSA has been received by the College, all additional forms will be sent to you.
Step 3
If you are applying for a loan, arrange to have official academic transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended sent to the Admissions, Registration, and Records Office. A separate loan information form is required and is available in the Financial Aid Office.
Step 4
Review your Student Aid Report (SAR). Your SAR will be mailed to you within four weeks after you apply. The Financial Aid Office will make necessary corrections for you. If you apply online, you can print the SAR after it has been processed using your PIN.
Step 5
Once you receive an award letter from Kishwaukee College, sign and return it. Keep your copy for your records.

*This date is subject to change and is based on funding by the Illinois General Assembly. It is unlikely that applicants who apply after August 1 will receive the Illinois Monetary Award (MAP) grant.
