2010-11 Kishwaukee College Financial Aid Direct Loan Information

Applying for a Direct Student Loan or Parent Plus Loan 2010-11

The Kishwaukee College Financial Aid Office announces the arrival of the Federal Direct Loan Program starting with the Fall Semester 2010.  In the Federal Direct Loan Program, students and parents borrow directly from the federal government, and will no longer be required to find private lenders to secure their Stafford or Parent PLUS loans.

Recent legislative changes have eliminated the Federal Family Education Loan Programs (FFELP) effective July 1, 2010.

Federal Direct and PLUS Loan Programs have the following benefits:

  • Eliminates the complexity of multiple loan programs
  • Eliminates the possibility of lenders opting out of the program
  • Provides one lender and one loan payment to students who borrow only from Direct Loans
  • Offers four repayment options for students
  • Offers interest rate reductions for on-time loan payments
  • Allows students to participate in the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program
