Adult Education offers free GED preparation classes

Adult learners can prepare for the GED exam by taking free classes offered through Kishwaukee College’s Adult Education and Transition Programs division. Enrollment is open unless noted below. Open enrollment means participants can join a class at any time during the spring semester; classes begin the week of January 11. GED preparation classes are free for the participants. GED classes cover reading, writing, science, social studies, and mathematics. Adults work at their own level and speed.

In DeKalb, GED classes are offered on Mondays and Wednesdays at First Lutheran Church, 324 N. Third Street (participants should enter through the alley entrance), from 6:00 - 8:05p.m.; there is no class on Monday, January 18. The instructor is Julie Johnson. There is no child care available at the First Lutheran class site.

There is also a morning GED session at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 830 N. Annie Glidden Road, on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 9:00 - 11:05a.m. with instructor Dolores Hodge. A second class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9:00 - 11:05a.m. with instructor Becki Vaughn. With sufficient enrollment, childcare will be provided for children from infancy through age 10 through the Family Literacy Program of Kishwaukee College.

There is a GED class in Genoa at St. Catherine of Genoa Church, 340 Stott St. that meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 - 7:35p.m. with instructor Julie Axelsen. With sufficient enrollment, childcare will be provided for children from infancy through age 10 through the Family Literacy Program of Kishwaukee College.

There is also a GED class in Sycamore at the Sycamore Public Library, 103 State Street, in the Carnegie Room, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00 - 8:05p.m. Students may only enroll in this class on the following dates: January 11 and 13. The instructor is Marietta Preston. There is no child care available at the Sycamore Library class site.
