KC offers free ESL and GED® classes in Rochelle

The Adult Education and Transition Programs division of Kishwaukee College is offering English as a Second Language (ESL) and English GED classes at various times during spring 2011 in Rochelle. The ESL classes help adults with limited English proficiency learn the basics of speaking, listening, reading, and writing with practical applications to daily life. GED classes offer students an opportunity to prepare for the GED or high school equivalency exam. There are also GED classes conducted in Spanish being offered. All classes are offered free of charge to participants. Enrollment for the second half of the semester begins the week of March 14 at the class sites.
Beginning ESL is at St. Patrick’s Education Center, 903 Caron Road in Rochelle, on Mondays and Thursdays, from 5:30 – 8:10p.m. with instructor Dan Bechtol. Students may enroll in this evening class on the following dates: March 14, 17, 21, and 24. With sufficient enrollment, childcare will be provided by the Family Literacy Program for children from birth through age 10 while their parents are in class. Another class meets on Mondays and Thursdays, from 9:00 – 11:40a.m. also with instructor Dan Bechtol. This class section has an open enrollment which means students can join the class at any time during the semester. There is no childcare available for this class.
Intermediate ESL is offered at St. Patrick’s Education Center, 903 Caron Road in Rochelle, on Mondays and Thursdays, from 5:30 -8:10p.m. This class will be taught by Cindy Enzler. Students may enroll in this evening class on the following dates: March 14, 17, 21, and 24. With sufficient enrollment, childcare will be provided by the Family Literacy Program for children from birth through age 10 while their parents are in class.
There will also be Intermediate ESL classes offered at Kishwaukee College in Room A-110 on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9 – 11:40a.m., taught by Chad Steponik. Students may enroll in this class on the following dates: March 14, 16, 21, and 23. With sufficient enrollment, childcare will be provided by the Family Literacy Program for children from birth through age 10 while their parents are in class.
Another section of Intermediate ESL will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 -11:40a.m. in Room A-109, taught by Bethany Macarus. Students may enroll in this class on the following dates: March 15, 17, 22, and 24. With sufficient enrollment, childcare will be provided by the Family Literacy Program for children from birth through age 10 while their parents are in class on Thursdays only; there is no childcare available on Tuesdays.
GED classes that are taught in English meet at St. Patrick Education Center, 903 Caron Road in Rochelle, on Mondays and Thursdays, from 5:30 – 8:10p.m. with instructor Jenine Povlsen. Students may enroll in this class on the following dates: March 14, 17, 21, and 24. With sufficient enrollment, childcare will be provided by the Family Literacy Program for children from birth through age 10 while their parents are in class.
Spanish GED classes are taught in Spanish only and are designed to prepare participants to take the GED or high school equivalency exam. Spanish GED classes are offered on Mondays, from 5:30 – 8:10p.m. at Kishwaukee College, Room U-139. Spanish GED classes are also available during the day on Thursdays, from 9 –11:40a.m. at the College, Room U-139. The instructor for both classes is Gilda Madrid. Students may enroll in both Spanish GED classes at any time during the semester. With sufficient enrollment, childcare will be provided by the Family Literacy Program for children from birth through age 10 while their parents are in class on Thursdays only; there is no childcare available on Mondays.
