Catch the Family Literacy Fun!- August 30th, 2007—Carla Raynor, Coordinator of the Family Literacy Program at Kishwaukee College, stands above a banner on display in the Kishwaukee College main atrium that was created by children and parents who participated in the program's F.I.S.H.E.R. Project at class sites and other select locations during the summer. “F.I.S.H.E.R.” stands for “Families In Summer Having Enjoyable Reading” and is one of the many learning activities that children and their parents enjoy together as participants in the Family Literacy Program. Family Literacy provides educational experiences for children from birth through age 7 whose parents are enrolled in GED preparation or English as a Second Language classes; while the parents are in class, their children are in a room with program staff at the same location. Family Literacy for Fall 2007 began on August 27. There are still a limited number of openings at selected sites; other sites have a waiting list. For more information on the location and availability of Family Literacy Program sites for ESL and GED preparation, contact Carla Raynor at 815-825-2086, ext. 291 or by email at craynor@kishwaukeecollege.edu.
