Study Abroad Programs

One way Kishwaukee College provides students with a global perspective in education is through our Study Abroad programs. As a member of the Illinois Consortium for International Studies and Programs (ICISP), Kishwaukee offers cost-effective study abroad opportunities.

ICISP was formed in 1986 through an initiative of several Illinois community colleges in collaboration with Illinois State University. It currently offers semester-long programs at Christ Church College in Canterbury, England and at Salzburg College in Salzburg, Austria. ICISP and the College of DuPage cosponsor a five-week summer Spanish immersion program in San Jose, Costa Rica held at the highly regarded Forester Instituto. Various other summer study abroad programs are also offered.

Current Study Abroad Opportunities

Canterbury, England

In Canterbury, located in the southeast corner of England, students study at Christ Church University College, a small, friendly school of about 5,000 full-time students. American students live with host families near the college; take courses with British and other ICISP students; join student activities such as clubs, sports, and drama; and travel both in England and throughout the continent. Available fall and spring semesters.

Salzburg, Austria

Salzburg College is situated in an important cultural center of Europe in the northern foothills of the Alps. Here, students attend classes taught in English with other American and Japanese students, live with host families, eat meals at the college, and travel extensively. Course selections include subjects such as art, music, political science, history, and photography. Available fall, spring and summer semesters.

San Jose, Costa Rica

Costa Rica is especially appealing as a study abroad site because of its beauty, prosperity, and political stability. Students participate in a full range of field trips and activities during this five-week, Spanish immersion program designed by the College of DuPage. Courses in the Culture and Civilization of Costa Rica and Spanish at the appropriate level provide transferable college credit hours. The program includes housing with Costa Rican families. Available summer only.

Dijon, France

Dijon, France is a lively, progressive university city of approximately 250,000 inhabitants. The Centre Internationale des Études Françaises, located in the heart of the University of Burgundy campus, welcomes students from all over the world. Students receive instruction from faculty members who specialize in the communicative teaching of French as a second language. The program, hosted by Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois, is rounded out by numerous and varied cultural activities including cooking classes, cinema workshops, concerts, and guided tours in the city of Dijon. Housing is provided in single rooms at a University of Burgundy residence hall. Available summer only.

Sydney, Australia

In partnership with the International College of Management Sydney (ICMS), MacQuarie University, and Madison Area Technical College in Wisconsin, this program is designed to give participants an immersion experience in the history and culture of Australia. The program entails classroom instruction at the ICMS campus and field trips to sites of cultural and historical significance such as the Blue Mountains, Sydney Opera House and Australian Stock Exchange. Students stay in residence halls on the ICMS campus. Available summer only.
