Scholarships

Most scholarships listed are awarded annually. Students should apply directly to the donor unless otherwise noted. Scholarship notices are posted on the Financial Aid Office bulletin board. In addition, various Internet scholarship search sites are available. Contact the Financial Aid Office for more information. Students are encouraged to check out local civic, service, and fraternal organizations not listed below for possible awards. Students usually have to be considered at least half time (6 semester hours per term) to qualify for scholarship programs.

Altrusa Club Scholarship

Scholarships given each spring for returning women students. Contact Financial Aid Office for application due in March.

DeKalb County Voiture - #207 40 and 80 Nurses Scholarship

$900 award over two years for students accepted into the Nursing Program. Applications available from Nursing Office.

Illinois Community College Trustees Association/Kishwaukee College Paul Simon Essay Contest

Scholarship for tuition and fees and possibility to win from the state tuition for subsequent fall term. Applications are due in February each year. The essay topic is typically “How My Community College has Changed My Life.”

Kishwaukee College Academic Achievement Award

In district tuition and mandatory fee waivers each year for twenty current graduates from in district high schools. Graduates must demonstrate exceptional academic ability and have a high school graduating class rank in the top 25%. Recipients must complete 12 semester hours with a 3.100 GPA each term the award is received. Apply at Financial Aid Office during last semester in high school. April deadline.

Kishwaukee College Achievement Award

In district tuition and mandatory fee waivers for students demonstrating exceptional ability in forensics, student government, and student newspaper. Recipients must complete 12 semester hours with a 2.000 GPA each semester the award is received. To apply, contact the sponsor for the specific activity at Kishwaukee College.

Kishwaukee College Achievement Award for Theatre

Tuition and fees award for students who display exceptional individual ability in theatre at Kishwaukee College. Must be enrolled in or have completed THE 111, 112, or 113. To renew, must successfully complete term courses with 2.00 GPA. Applications available from Financial Aid Office or Theatre Department. Due in September and February.

Kishwaukee College Athletic Achievement Award

In district tuition and mandatory fee waivers for students demonstrating exceptional ability in the following sports: men’s baseball, men’s basketball, men’s soccer, women’s basketball, women’s softball, and women’s volleyball. Recipients must complete 12 semester hours with a 2.000 GPA each term the award is received. Apply through Kishwaukee College Director of Athletics.

Kishwaukee Community Hospital Auxiliary Scholarships

Scholarships for students planning to enroll in the Basic Nurses Assistant class and also for students pursuing a health care profession at Kishwaukee College. Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office and from the hospital.

Minority Student Achievement Award

The Student Association recognizes achievement in school or community activities, organizations, academic or athletic achievement with a $250 award. Students must have completed at least 12 semester hours of 100/200 level courses at Kishwaukee with a 2.25 GPA. Apply in March with application available at the Transfer Center.

Minority Teachers of Illinois Scholarship

Scholarships for students who are planning to become preschool, elementary or secondary school teachers and are of African American/Black, Hispanic American, Asian American, or Native American origin may qualify for up to $500 per year to pay for tuition, fees, and room and board, or computer allowance. Recipients of the scholarship must teach in Illinois for each year the scholarship is received. If the teaching obligation is not fulfilled, the scholarship converts to a loan and the student must repay the entire amount plus interest. Scholarship applications are available from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission at http://www.collegezone.com.

John Roberts Student Leadership Award

$250 award to recognize outstanding leadership either on campus or in the community. Must have 2.500 GPA with at least 12 semester hours completed and enrolled for six semester hours during the spring term. Applications available in the Financial Aid Office.
