Child Care
The Early Childhood Center
The Kishwaukee College Early Childhood Center provides high-quality early childhood care and education for young children and their families.
We believe that young children grow, learn, and develop in an environment where they feel safe, secure, and loved. We believe that a child’s first school experience sets the stage for all later learning, therefore we strive to make your child’s experience with our school a positive one.
We are licensed by the Department of Children and Family Services and a member of Community Coordinated Child Care (4-C).
Who We Serve
We provide care for children between the ages of two and six. Students attending our program are children of Kishwaukee College students & staff as well as community residents. Families DO NOT have to be affiliated with Kishwaukee College to use our program. (More than one-half of our families are “community” families.) Part-time and full-time enrollment is offered to meet your family’s needs.
Our Staff
Our Teaching Team includes dedicated, professionally trained and experienced teachers who use their talents to provide interesting learning experiences in our classrooms and on our playground. With a low child to adult ratio, we are able to provide individualized care and education for the children attending our school. To remain knowledgeable of current approaches in early childhood education, our staff members participate in a minimum of fifteen hours of professional development each year. All Head Teachers, Assistant Teachers, and the Director are certified in CPR and First Aid.
Learning Experiences
Our daily schedule consists of:
Child Choice Time at Interest Centers, Activity Times, Meal Times, Bathroom Breaks, Afternoon Rest Time, Group Times, and Outdoor Play. We provide both spontaneous and planned learning experiences that focus on the total development of each child—helping children to grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically.
Hours
Monday-Friday, 7:15 a.m.-5:15 p.m.
The Center is open when Kishwaukee College Classes are in session and selected additional days.
Nutrition
The Center provides Morning Snack, Lunch, and Afternoon Snack for children attending during these times. We participate in the U.S.D.A.’s Child Care and Adult Food Program and all foods served meet federal requirements.
Parent Communication
In addition to daily conversations, we publish monthly “Kish Notes” newsletters to keep parents informed with Center and classroom happenings. We also offer Parent-Teacher Conferences each semester.
Enrollment Information
An Application for Enrollment can be obtained by contacting the Center’s Director. We recommend that you request an Application at least one month before your desired start date. Children typically begin enrollment at the start of our Fall (August-December), Spring (January-May), or Summer (May-August) semesters. Children may, however, begin enrollment at other times as well to meet your childcare needs.
Requirements
All children attending KCECC must receive a physical examination by their family physician prior to attendance. In addition, all immunizations must be up-to-date and a TB skin test, or physician waiver thereof, must be obtained.
Additional forms are provided to parents upon acceptance to the Center.
