KishConnect Frequently Asked Questions


As of July 20th 2009, the UI (User Interface) Desktop is no longer available for use.

Users will now be able to access KishConnect via the Web UI. You can login to the Web UI at kishui.local. The KCIT team reccommends that users begin using Web UI prior to the cut off date and report any issues to your supervisor.

As of July 23 2009, the auto-logout feature will be enabled. Users will be automatically logged out of KishConnect after 30 minutes of inactivity.

In order to be compliant with regulations dealing with information security and our auditor's recommendations, Kishwaukee College will enable the automatic logout feature in KishConnect. The TEST environment is already configured to automatically log out users after 30 minutes of inactivity. Users with access to TEST (for the monthly patch testing exercises) are encourage to log into the TEST environment to try this out for users in your areas.

How do I access KishConnect?

ANSWER: You connect to the KishConnect web user interface by opening a standard browser and entering kishwaukeecollege.edu.  Click on faculty staff links, then click on the KishConnect link. 

You must be on a computer connected to the campus network, or have VPN activated from a home computer.

At the login screen, enter the user ID and password provided by your department, database should be Production.

How do I access the menu bar?

ANSWER: The menu bar is accessed by the dropdown arrow next to the blue globe.

Why can’t I find the menu items I usually see?

ANSWER: If you do not see the menu items you usually do, click on the dropdown arrow near the top left corner of the screen.  Select the application you want to work from the Apps option. You need to be working in the ST or CF applications.

Why doesn’t the login box appear?

ANSWER: If the login box does not appear, verify that Java is setup.  On Internet Explorer, this is under Tools, Internet Options, Advanced. The box with Java should be checked.

What are the differences, between save, cancel and save all, cancel all?

ANSWER: The Save and Cancel buttons enable you to save or cancel changes to the current form. The Save All and Cancel All enable you to save or cancel all of your changes simultaneously to every form that is currently open in this session.

Are there issues with access KishConnect from a Mac?

ANSWER: Some of the Possible Issues for Macintosh users:

Sometimes the menu bar will not allow you to select the options with your mouse.  This has been verified as bug by Datatel.  You must use the arrow keys to select individual items once the menu appears.

I get an unable to open file error message, what should I do?

ANSWER: If you see the follow error message:

Unable to open the file [File Name and Location]
You are currently running Java Version 1.5.0_02
However you must be running at least Java version 1.6.0

Your workstation will need a Java update. Please open a workorder in the helpdesk system, then copy and paste the error into your workorder.

What should I do if I get transparent or hard to see windows in KishConnect?

ANSWER: Several Datatel schools have come across the same problem, and Datatel is working on a solution. In the meantime, the problem can be fixed by either canceling out, minimizing and then maximizing the window, or dragging it off screen and then back on screen again.

I am not able to print advising transcripts off the XTRA screen, what should I do?

ANSWER: Java software on your computer may need to be updated. Please enter a Helpdesk ticket with a copy of the error message.

Upon login I get a screen in KishConnect that asks for a new application name, what should I do?

ANSWER: Users will see the “Enter a new application name” screen if the user interface is begun in the Toolkit application.  Enter ST or CF (Student or Colleague Financial) and press enter. You will then be able to switch to the ST or CF menu using the Apps menu and continue your work as usual.
