Engineering, Math & Science Academy
The Engineering, Math & Science Academy (EMSA) is open to all high school juniors and seniors who are interested in pursuing a college curriculum focused on science or engineering. EMSA provides students an opportunity to start their college career while still attending high school, offering at least 23 transferrable and affordable college credits before earning their high school diploma.
EMSA offers three unique tracks tailored towards students’ interests, aspirations, and intended college majors. Students have the opportunity to select their track upon application.
The Engineering track is designed for students interested in pursuing math-based majors and careers such as engineering, physics, chemistry and computer science.
Students in the EMSA Engineering track will take Fundamentals of Physics I and Calculus II during the fall semester, and Fundamentals of Physics II and Calculus III during the spring semester. As an optional second summer semester, Engineering track students can take Differential Equations.
Students who complete the Engineering track will earn 23 semester hours of transferable credit.
The Pre-Professional track is designed for students interested in pursuing science-based majors and careers including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy and veterinary science.
Students in the Pre-Professional track will take General Chemistry I and Biology Principles I during the fall semester, and General Chemistry II and Biology Principles II during the spring semester. As an optional summer semester, students can take Basic Chemistry.
Students who complete the Pre-Professional track will earn 18 semester hours of transferable credit.
The Pre-Nursing track is designed for students interested in pursuing nursing, especially those interested in starting at Kishwaukee College before transferring to complete a four-year nursing degree. Successful completion of these courses and other admission requirements would grant students provisional admittance into the Kishwaukee College Nursing program.
Students in the Pre-Nursing track will take General Bio and Oral Communication in the first summer semester, Basic Chemistry Anatomy and Physiology I in the fall semester, Anatomy and Physiology II and Microbiology in the spring semester, and Composition I and Introduction to Psychology in the second summer semester.
Students who complete the Pre-Nursing track may earn up to 29 semester hours of transferable credit.
Joining the EMSA Program
- High school chemistry with a grade of "B" or better completed by the start of the program.
- High school pre-calculus with a grade of "B" or better completed by the start of the program.
- High school counselor letter of recommendation.
- Express interest in the program to a high school counselor.
- Complete the Kishwaukee College online application as a high school student.
- Submit the Early College/EMSA Program application to your high school counselor.
- Place into college-level math and English.
- Placement testing
- SAT/PSAT scores
- ACT scores
- GPA 3.5+ over five semesters or 3.0+ over six semesters (English only)
- Complete Welcome Packet materials.
- Participation agreement,
- Consent agreement (for students under age 16 at the start of the program)
- Media release form
- Transcript release form
- Attend program orientation.
- Create course plan with your Kish and high school advisors.
- Complete registration for the upcoming semester.
