Illinois High School Diploma (IHSD) classes get you career and college ready. These free pre-college classes will help you pass the IHSD exams, such as the GED®. Passing the IHSD exams can help you get a new job, a promotion, or even qualify for job training. An IHSD is the first step in pursuing a certificate or degree at a college. Earning your IHSD can be an important step in building self-esteem and a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Frequently Asked Questions
We have classes in subjects such as language arts, social studies, math and science. We cover adult basic and adult secondary skills equivalent to a high school education. Classes can be taken in English or Spanish, depending on the semester.
We also offer a Citizenship class that provides an overview of the U.S. Citizenship test including American history and government. Basic interviewing, test-taking and writing skills — including grammar and vocabulary in American English — will be addressed.
Registration takes place before each semester at Kishwaukee College and at various community sites. You can attend one of the scheduled events listed in the table above, or call 815-825-9420 to schedule a registration appointment at your convenience.

Registration takes about three hours to complete. There are forms to complete and orientation. A high school equivalency test covers many subjects and you may already be competent in some of these areas. We want to make sure you take the classes you need to pass the test. You will take a placement assessment during registration.
You can start the process early.

- Bring the completed form with you to Registration (dates can be found on this schedule) or email the form to adulted@kish.edu.
- Plan up to three hours for assessment testing.
When you’re ready, you can take the GED® through the Kish testing center or at a location near you. There are many resources to help you prepare. You will need to create an account with ged.com to register for the official GED® test.
Se hace la registración/orientación para el programa de la Educación para Adultos en Kishwaukee College (GED® e inglés como segunda lengua) antes del principio de cada semestre. Por favor, vea el calendario para determinar las fechas/horas/lugares de inscripción y orientación.
El proceso de la registración/orientación consiste en mirar el video, llenar la forma de registración, y tomar los examenes apropriados para la(s) clase(s) en las cuales tiene ínteres. - Picture ID is required to register. Please bring your ID to your registration appointment.
- Students 16-17 years of age must provide a letter of separation from high school upon entry. Bring the letter to your registration appointment or have it emailed to adulted@kish.edu.
